Persistent rainfall has led to severe floods in many parts of Germany in recent weeks. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technical Relief Agency. The peak wave reached Magdeburg on Sunday, June 9th, with the level slowly sinking since then. The dikes have been soaked, so that the situation remains tense and no warning has yet been given. The map also shows the location of the substation in the flooded Stadteil Rothensee, which is currently secured by 1,500 Bundeswehr soldiers against the floods to ensure the power supply of 30,000 people. The map shows the observed water expansion on June 10 (12:19 CET) derived from Pléiades data with a spatial resolution of 0.5 m. This data also serves as a background image. Please note that the flood situation under vegetation cover and by clouds and cloud shadows may not be fully detected.
