Dataset description

The map shows the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach, represented by PlanetScope data from January 11, 2019. Since January 5, 2019, extreme snowfall has led to a tense situation throughout the foothills. This is why the catastrophe case was declared in five Bavarian districts. The stormy snowfalls led to high snow loads, snow drifts and increased avalanche exits. Overall, traffic impairments and the provision of benefits as well as isolations of individual municipalities and long-term school failures occurred. On-site personnel were involved in securing buildings, clearing traffic routes and maintaining food. The dangers were dealt with at the level of the districts with nationwide support from the fire brigade, the Federal Police and the Bundeswehr, as well as forces of the THW, the BRK and the DLRG.The map should bear in mind that the difference between clouds and snow surfaces is sometimes difficult to see. In general, the cutting was selected according to the availability of cloud-free areas.
