Green roof mapping

On the basis of an automated method of EFTAS Fernerkundung Technologietransfer GmbH, a green roof mapping was carried out for the entire urban area. Thus, the area potential already used on the Dresden roof areas can be measured quantitatively and a future further development of green roofs can be analysed. The point representations show the roof surfaces on which a greening was recorded. Only green roofs with a roof area of a size of ten square meters are shown. Specific information on the exact cover and the exact size of the green roof area is not shown in the map. The increasing re-sealing and the associated decline in green and open spaces pose an enormous challenge for the city in times of climate change. Roof greens can be a solution due to their numerous ecological performances. They have a positive impact on the urban climate, water balance, air and noise pollution. In addition, they can be realised without additional urban soil consumption. As a result, roof greens are becoming increasingly important in sustainable future-oriented urban planning.
