GÜK 200 — Geological overview map

More than 90 % of the land area is covered by the eight North Rhine-Westphalian sheets of this map. On each map sheet, on an area of approximately 8 000 km² the rock sequences that can be distinguished according to age and composition are shown in scale and described in a legend. Overlays of younger rocks over older rocks are partially taken into account. The mountain construction with its tectonic elements is also reproduced as detailed as possible on the map. In combination with the vertical depth cutting, the thickness of the layers in the substrate and the geometry of folds and disturbances are illustrated. The basis for processing is above all the Geological Map of North Rhine-Westphalia 1: 100 000 taking into account new cartilage results. The GÜK 200 gives a good overview of the large-regional distribution of the different rock layers. The map work is published by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials, Hannover, in cooperation with the Geological Services of the Federal Republic of Germany.
