Dataset description

The leaves of the Hydrogeological Map [HK 50] of North Rhine-Westphalia in scale 1: 50 000 show distribution, location and rock characteristics of the aquifers and low ladders found in the leaf area. In the main maps, loose rocks and fixed rocks are assigned to different permeability classes according to their hydraulic properties, and the width of the usable groundwater space is also reflected in the looser rock. The maps also contain information on the location of springs, wells, groundwater measuring stations and potential groundwater hazards (excavations, deposits). Hydrogeological cutting series give an impression about the storage, thickness and hydraulic connections of the hydrogeological units. In newer leaves, another map shows the spread and composition of overlapping top layers and their protective function for groundwater, the risk of substance input into groundwater is classified. Information on the geogenic groundwater quality is also provided here. Secondary maps (e.g. geological overview, quaternary basis and permeability of surface layers, groundwater analyses or basics of processing) are partly included. The construction of the groundwater surface — also shown on a side map — is based on digital data from the State Environment Agency North Rhine-Westphalia (LUA), Essen. Additional information on groundwater levels and water protected areas can be obtained there. In some cases, short explanations with a list of fonts are included in the map sheets, which focus on the content and presentation of the maps, as well as the groundwater guidance and openness of the layers found in the leaf area.
