Dataset description

Technical description: The data described here are the contents of the flood risk and flood risk maps according to the EC Flood Risk Management Directive (2007/60/EC, HWRM-RL) for the 2nd reporting cycle (2019-2025). In Hamburg, a distinction is made between flood risks caused by coastal floods or inland floods. The hazard and risk maps cover three flood events each. For inland floods, the frequent event is (marking: H for High) a 10-yearly average event (marking: M for Middle) a 100-year and the rare event (marking: L for Low) a 200-yearly. For areas endangered by coastal floods, the frequent event is a 20-yearly event, the median event, like inland floods, a 100-yearly and the rare event an extreme event in which a rare, extremely high water level (7.62 MNHN at St. Pauli level) is assumed and additionally disregarded the effect of flood protection systems. The hazard maps represent the extent of the flood events in the form of expansion and water depths. The risk maps show how the affected areas are used, the location of industrial assets and protected goods, as well as the number of potentially affected inhabitants. In both maps, the structural flood protection systems (e.g. dikes, private polders and flood protection walls) and their effect are recognizable. Legal background: The Flood Risk Management Directive (2007/60/EC of 23.10.2007) regulates the development and publication of flood risk management maps. The legal transposition of this EC Directive into national law took place with the amendment of the Water Budget Act of 1 March 2010. §74 WHG stipulates the publication of flood hazard and flood risk maps for the second reporting cycle as of 22.12.2019. The data for flood risk management (HWRM) maps of the 2nd reporting cycle (2019-2025) are provided here as a WMS presentation service and as a WFS download service.
