Dataset description

Distribution of hydrogeological units as layer of hydrogeological map 1: 500 000. Zoom limit min. 1:1 000 000 to max. 1:200 000. A hydrogeological unit means a rock body which, due to petrography, texture or structure, has uniform hydrogeological properties of a defined range and is limited by layer boundaries, facies, erosion margins or disturbances. The range in which a rock body is considered hydrogeologically homogeneous depends to a large extent on the processing and representation scale. In the case of loose rocks, a hydrogeological unit may consist of a single or a complex of several sedimentation bodies, in the case of solid rocks from a single layer or a sequence of layers of similar rock formation and similar degree of separation. The technical basis for the hydrogeological units is the hydrogeological overview map of Germany on a scale of 1:200,000 (HÜK200), which was prepared for the Bavarian share between 2000 and 2003 by the former Bavarian Geological Office in cooperation with the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials (BGR) in Hanover. Geometries and legend units are designed for the viewing scale 1:500 000 (1 cm on a map correspond to 5 km in nature) and are i.e. strongly generalised. The HK 500 is intended as a basis for larger-scale considerations, it does not replace detailed examinations and assessments by a specialist office in the planning of local projects.
