Dataset description

As part of the “Energieatlas Baden-Württemberg” a potential analysis for hydropower was prepared for the catchment areas Neckar, Danube, Hochrhein, Main, Upper Rhine and Lake Constance/Alpenrhein. From autumn 2008 to 2016, the potential of hydropower at sites up to 1 MW was systematically investigated, with the exception of the navigable section between Plochingen and Mannheim in the Neckar catchment area, whose hydropower plants consistently have an output of more than 1 MW. In order to determine the hydropower potentials, standardised definitions on ecological outflows based on fish ecological requirements were made, in particular on the basis of the hydropower decree Baden-Württemberg.
