Dataset description

Landscape names are popular names whose origins may be natural, historical, economic or other. Unlike political entities (e.g. municipality, district) whose boundaries are clearly and legally defined by official surveying, landscapes generally do not have precise but only vague, legally undefined limits. The boundaries shown in the map are therefore, in most cases, only to be regarded as ‘border fringes’ in which the affiliation of individual areas to a given landscape cannot be necessarily derived. Descriptions of the landscapes are available. The data of this spatial data set shall be provided only through a WMS service.
