The site register of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is a nationwide list of areas on which genetically modified plants are grown or released for research purposes. Public access only applies to area data. Access by state authorities to personal data from the respective federal state is possible. The first notification of a cultivation of GMOs comes from 27.12.2006, the last of 05.02.2014. There is currently no cultivation of GMOs in Germany.
The establishment of the site register of genetically modified organisms was transferred to the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) with the reorganisation of genetic engineering law and the associated GMO Act in February 2005 to inform the public and monitor possible effects on health and the environment.
