Map layer Landscape protected areas NRW

Landscape Protected Areas (LSG) are legally binding areas in which, pursuant to Paragraph 26(1) of the BNatSchG, ‘a special protection of nature and landscape (1) is necessary for the conservation, development or restoration of the performance and functioning of the natural budget or the regeneration capacity and sustainable usability of natural goods, (2) because of the diversity, character and beauty or the special cultural historical importance of the landscape, or (3) because of their particular importance for recreation’. Compared to nature reserves, these are generally larger areas with less restrictions on use. Prohibitions of change are aimed at preserving the “character” of the area. Agriculture and forestry may be restricted provided that they change the nature of the area or are contrary to the purpose of protection. Landscape protected areas can also be designated to preserve the landscape for tourism and recreation. Comments on the LSG for metadata: For the districts and district-free cities of Krefeld and Minden-Lübbecke, the service does not yet contain the current status.
