Mineral and healing water deposits in NRW

The volume “Mineral and healing water deposits in North Rhine-Westphalia” presents the mineral and healing springs of North Rhine-Westphalia with their typical waters using an overview map and an explanatory text. A selection from the neighbouring federal states and neighbouring states is also taken into account. The map shows the type-determining components in pie charts for all mineral and medicinal water deposits. Information is also provided on whether it is a thermal water or a acid, or higher levels of iron, iodide, sulphur and fluoride. For all occurrences, the use — e.g. balneological use or bottling in well plants — is indicated. The representation of large-scale geological units and the spread of rock salt deposits of different ages in the underground are also part of the map. The accompanying text contains a short explanation of the nomenclature of mineral and medicinal waters, a short geographical and geological overview of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, an introduction to the formation of mineral and medicinal waters and a description of the six mineral water provinces of North Rhine-Westphalia. The annex contains hydrochemical tables, which substantially complement the information on the medicinal and mineral waters in the map. In addition to the chemical components of the water, information on the depth of the wells, the stratigraphy of the aquifers and the type of mineral water as well as references to further literature can be found there.
