Dataset description

Geröll analyses were carried out on the A3 motorway in an excavation of diverted terrestrial to quaternary lockers on the A3 motorway (Homberg-Bracht district) by a gravel horizon. The sperm spectrum in the centre pine area, with approximately 70 % gangquarz, 20 % lydite or radiolarite, and the relatively rare but characteristic maaseier and kieselooliths, corresponds to those of the older mountain terraces, which are classicly defined at altitudes of + 180 to + 185 m NHN (Mettmann terrace) and + 160 to + 170 m NHN (Homberg terrace). The giant horizon in Homberg-Bracht with an altitude of only + 125 m NHN, as well as further observations from early elevation otters in Heiligenhaus and Ratingen-Homberg, point to relocation products mainly due to the lack of characteristics of fluviatil sedimentation. Thus, the definition of terraces and the chronological classification on the basis of altitudes must be questioned. Instead of the term ‘older mountain breeds’, the term ‘Ältere Niederbergische Hochnschotter’ would therefore be more accurate, thus also indicating the natural range.
