Oriented aerial images are a combination of data already available for official tasks. In the context of the multi-month production process of Digital Orthophotos (DOPs), the original digital measurement images are available at an early stage in conjunction with the respective orientation data and the camera calibration protocol; the spatial mapping of the digital original measurement images is possible on the basis of an image center overview. The orientation data contains the parameters of the external orientation (position and orientation of the recording center in the room). This data is initially available after the image flight via direct georeferencing using GPS and inertial navigation system (INS) with a position and altitude accuracy of about 0.5 m. In the course of the subsequent aerotriangulation (AT), i.e. the calculation of the orientation parameters via passpoints in the image block association, the accuracy of the orientation parameters is usually increased to less than 0.2 m in position and 0.4 m in height. The GPS/INS orientation data is available shortly after delivery of the image flight data. The subsequent calculation of the more accurate AT orientation data takes a few weeks.
