Dataset description

On Friday, November 8, typhoon Haiyan (category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale) met in the Philippines at 4:40 am local time. With wind speeds of more than 300 km/h, the typhoon moved across the islands of Samar and Leyte in the west-northwest direction, triggering numerous storm surges that caused large-scale destruction. The map shows the situation in Bogo City in the north of Cebu Island. Based on a visual interpretation of a WorldView-1 post-satellite scene from 11/11/2013 (recording time: 02:14) a detailed damage assessment was made. The number of damaged buildings has been summarised for a 100 m cell. Please note that some areas could not be evaluated due to cloud cover. Due to limited data, the individual buildings and roads are not always fully displayed.
