Dataset description
The map of the potential natural vegetation of Thuringia was created on the initiative of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation Bonn in cooperation with the Thuringian State Institute for Environment and Geology. It is a subproject within the framework of the "Creation of an overview map of the potent natural vegetation of Germany in scale 1: 500,000 with simultaneous collection and survey of natural forests as the basis for national and international conservation planning. The maps were drawn up on the basis of a combined analysis of various country-related mappings (natural, geological, soil-based maps, agricultural and forestry surveys, vegetation mappings) as well as additional on-site surveys.
