Dataset description

Current untested raw data on water level (W), water temperature, water quality and precipitation (N) from HYGON. Any errors, including incorrect values, can only be rectified in the subsequent inspection of the operator. For this reason, no guarantee can be assumed for the completeness and correctness of the data retrieved here. Water levels: The water level at above ground waters is measured by level. In North Rhine-Westphalia there are around 500 levels, whose measurements are the basis for planning and controlling water management systems. The so-called level being includes, in addition to the pure water level measurement at many levels, additional measurements to determine the drainage. Water temperature: The basis of a temperature measurement network consists primarily of the continuously measuring quality stations that LANUV operates nationwide. These stations have been installed at sampling points relevant to water management in NRW (e.g. estuaries of large by-waters in the Rhine, Ruhr and border water measurement stations). In addition, in recent years, so-called combination probes for measuring water level and water temperature have been installed in the installation of new measuring sensors for water levels at levels in NRW, which also enable the measurement of water temperature as a by-product at the site of water level measurement. Water quality: At six control stations on the Rhine and at the alarm stations at the mouths of the most important Rhine tributaries as well as at Weser and Ems, water samples are continuously collected by the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection (LANUV) NRW. Precipitation: Currently, the measured values are available as raw data values around 200 precipitation stations, which are equipped with technical devices for remote data transmission. The precipitation height is recorded at all stations in minute resolution. Depending on the technical equipment, the stations are called up once a day or they send current values every hour. The unaudited raw data is stored in Hygon’s database for 2 years. For older data, reference is made to the ELWAS specialised information system.
