» On 22nd The EC Water Framework Directive entered into force in December 2000. This Directive lays down, in Article 5, paragraph 1, that Member States enter into force no later than 4 years after the completion of an analysis of its characteristics and a review of the impact of human activities on the status of surface waters and groundwater for the river basin district. An economic analysis of water use must also be carried out. In accordance with Article 15 of the EC — WFD, the inventory must be submitted to the European Commission by 22 March 2005 at the latest. In this context, the German-Dutch Working Group on Water Quality (Subcommittee “G Ems-Dollart” of the Border Waters Commission) presents the implementation of this commitment for the Ems-DollartÄstuar area. Only surface water is taken into account, as the groundwater in the Ems dollar area is considered not relevant to ecology. During the preparation of the report, it became clear that there are still many knowledge gaps for a comprehensive assessment of the processing area.
