Dataset description

The legend units of the soil maps and the standard profiles attached to the content characterisation form the basis for the derivation of characteristic values to location properties (potential cation exchange capacity), water movement (saturated water conductivity) and water binding (field capacity, usable field capacity, air capacity). A derivation of the soil-specific characteristic values is carried out in accordance with the Soil Clinical Carting Instructions, 5th edition, Part B, pp. 342-372. — Soil type of the upper floor describes the typical soil type of the upper floor based on the profile descriptions of standardised profiles in the nomenclature of the soil history carting instructions (KA5), p. 141ff, fig. 17 and table 30. Soil types are distinguished according to the grain size composition of their mineral stock. — Field capacity of the soil up to 100 cm profile depth is the amount of soil water in volume % or mm water column that can bind at a suction voltage pF >= 1,8 or in pores with an equivalent diameter <= 50 µm. Classification is carried out in accordance with KA5, p. 349, tab. 74. — Usable field capacity of the soil up to 100 cm profile depth is the amount of soil water in volume % or mm water column which it can bind at a defined suction voltage between pF = 1,8 and pF = 4.2 or in pores with an equivalent diameter between 50 µm and 0.2 µm. Classification is carried out in accordance with KA5, p. 349, tab. 74. — Air capacity of the floor up to 100 cm profile depth is the pore space, which is filled with air at field capacity with a defined suction voltage of pF > 1,8. It is a measure of oxygen supply to plant roots. Classification is carried out in accordance with KA5, p. 349, tab. 74. — Saturated water conductivity of the soil up to 100 cm profile depth is a measure of the permeability of a water saturated soil. Classification is carried out in accordance with KA5, p. 355, tab. 80. — Potential cation exchange capacity of the soil up to 100 cm profile depth represents the quantity of interchangeable bound cations at the sorption complex at pH 8.2. Classification is carried out in accordance with KA5, p. 362, Table 85.
