Dataset description

Heavy metals (e.g. cadmium) are bound to varying degrees in soils. The binding is carried out by adsorption to exchangers (tone minerals, oxides) or by binding to organic soil components (humus) depending on the pH value. The pH value for agricultural use corresponds to a soil-specific pH-optimum, for forest use, the current mean site-specific acidification rate under forest. Due to the soil properties clay content, humus content, pH and iron oxide content, the relative binding strength of the soils for the individual heavy metals can be assessed. The map shows the relative binding strength of the upper soil (FSMO) exemplary for cadmium (due to its relatively representative properties of heavy metals) and is based on the soil map of Lower Saxony 1: 50 000.
