Soil map of Lower Saxony 1: 50 000 — Soil fertility (yielding capacity)

Soil fertility refers to the natural, local potential of soil for biomass production. This is influenced by mineralogical, physical, chemical and biological soil properties. Key factors for assessing the usability of a soil as a production site include water and potential nutrient supply, rootability and limitations due to wet soils. In addition, moor soils are classified separately. The results are related to the ground unit. Surcharges or reductions for area specific features (e.g. slope inclination, forest use) are not included in the evaluation. The assessment is carried out in a seven-stage qualitative scale (extremely low — extremely high) on the basis of Lower Saxony’s soil map on a scale of 1:50,000.
