Dataset description

The data set includes the forest damage areas caused by the storm event on 24 May 2010 in the Free State of Saxony. For each forest damage area, the damage is indicated in percent, the amount of wood in harvest solid meters, the stock target type (oak-beech-linden type, beech needle tree type, etc.) and the tree type suitable for afforestation. The harmful area comprises an approximately 6 km wide strip, which extends from Söllichau (Northwest Saxony) to Großharthau (South-East Saxony). On the basis of CIR (Color Infrafred) — orthophotographic data, the damage areas were demarcated and the damage percentages were recorded. Period of flight: 29.05. /03.06 (FOB Taura), 04.06.2010 (FoB Neustadt), 05.06.2010 (FoB Dresden). Detailed information on the collection and evaluation of the flight can be found in the article by Hoffmann und Kranz — Recording of storm damage using CIR orthographic data, General Forestry Journal for Forest Management and Environmental Preparation, issue 21/2010. The data set is based on the forest district map “Sturm Damage of 24 May 2010” on a scale of 1:12,000.
