Dataset description

In the end 19. C. and at the beginning of the 20th century. The mineral strontianite was mined in Westphalia in the Ascheberg, Drensteinfurt, Ahlen and Hamm areas predominantly in open pit mining. According to investigations by M. Gesing, the former shafts were mapped. The former mining operation is often only evidenced by the heaps or decayed shafts. As a rule, they are filled or collapsed. When superstructured, however, they should be taken into account. The mineral was used to extract residual sugar from molasses before synthetic processes were developed.
