Dataset description

In the area of the Balhorn settlement at Paderborn, which was abandoned during the late Middle Ages, the archaeologists also found their excavations on about 24 000 animal bones. At the request of the archaeologists, DG NRW carried out an osteo archaeological analysis of domestic and wild animal society from the Roman Emperor season to the late Middle Ages. From the taxonomic-numeric bone analysis, the use of domestic animals during the specified period is clarified. This shows the economic importance of the various breeds of domestic animals and the economic strategies of their owners (slaughter, eating, breeding).
