Dataset description

Potential and real storm damage risk for the tree species groups beech/oak, spruce, fir/douglasie, pine/larch and other tree species. A mean storm strength was assumed to be comparable to the national average of Storm Lothar in 1999, but at the same intensity throughout the federal state. An empirical-statistical model was used for the calculation of storm damage probabilities. The real storm damage risk refers to today’s real tree species deposits as well as real tree heights obtained from aerial images. The real storm damage risk can be used to classify the current threat to existing forest stocks and thus to determine the urgency for forest conversion. The potential storm damage risk refers to so-called standard trees per tree species group, i.e. trees of average height and diameter, so that it can be compared between the tree species. The potential storm damage risk serves to support tree species selection.
