Dataset description

Legal basis: Pursuant to Section 91 of the Lower Saxony Water Act (NWG) in conjunction with Paragraph 51 of the Water Resources Act (WHG), water protected areas (WSG) may be established in the interest of public water supply or for the benefit of the general public in order to protect groundwater in the extraction or catchment area of groundwater abstraction from adverse effects. Areas of all designated water protected areas in the district area with protected zones from I to III. Protection zone I = well, protection zone II = close vicinity around the well, protection zone III = further protection zone. In order to guarantee the protection of groundwater/drinking water, the respective regulation provides for restrictions of use in the individual protection zones (e.g. application of fertilisers and spraying agents, material storage, construction...).
