Dataset description

The designation of water protected areas (WSG) serves to protect groundwater from harmful effects and thus the drinking water resources for the public water supply. From planning to determination, the WSGs designated in accordance with Section 51 of the Water Resources Act (WHG) and Sections 45 and 95 of the Water Act (WG) are recorded and updated. The delimitation of the protection zones is carried out according to hydrogeological conditions by the State Office for Geology, Raw Materials and Mining Baden-Württemberg. A WSG can consist of up to 5 out of a total of 7 different water protection zones (WSG zone): — Zone I (capacity) — Zone II or zones IIA and IIB (closer protection zones) — Zone III or zones IIIA and IIIB (other protection zones) Each zone has its own laws and prohibitions, which are laid down in the Ordinance. The lower water authorities are responsible for the designation of water protected areas by ordinance. Differentiated according to established, provisionally ordered and undefined areas. The database published on the Internet includes the legally established, provisionally ordered, technically demarcated and established water protection areas in Baden-Württemberg, as well as the established and provisionally ordered water protection zones in Baden-Württemberg. For the geometry data, the Official Property Register Information System (ALKIS) serves as the basis for recording.
