Dataset description

The service provides the temporary water areas as a time series from January 2020 to the current date. The data represents floods of rivers and lakes, as well as other areas covered with water, which are reclassified with Sentinel-1 radar satellite data every 12 days. The geometric resolution is 10 m. Systemically, water-saturated meadows and fields or wet asphalt also have similar characteristics to water surfaces for the radar. The weather (especially precipitation and frost) at the time of recording can also have a negative impact on the classification result. Thus, there may be misclassifications in automatic detection. In order to minimise or exclude such effects, the classified water surfaces are blended and qualified with other official geo-based data and soil moisture data derived from Sentinel-1. In order to represent only flooded areas, the spatial data are used via land areas to measure both the rivers and lakes collectively recorded in these data and in the corrected classification. The result is the reliability of the water layer given in 33 %, 66 % or 100 %. Above sea, the water probability layer is combined with the geobase data with the help of the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory, thus adding another probability class of 16 %. This probability exists if the classification has not detected any water surfaces, but which are available in the spatial base data.
