Dataset description

The annual media values for 2016 of the analysis data for drinking water from the 9 waterworks of the Berliner Wasserbetriebe are shown. Drinking water is the best controlled food in Germany. In order for water to be referred to as drinking water and may be used as food, it must comply with the German Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV). State-of-the-art analytical methods make it increasingly possible to determine the least traces of substances in the water, so that the number of detectable organic components in the water matrix are constantly increasing. With the improvement of analytics, more and more substances can gradually be detected analytically. These substances are documented under the term “track substances”. The concentrations are usually in the nanogram range (1 billionth of a gram) per litre. In simple terms: a piece of cube sugar in the Wannsee. Berlin’s water complies with the requirements of the Drinking Water Ordinance. The measured values are annual median values. The median is a statistical mean. Unlike the average, the median in a list of numbers sorted by size is the value that is exactly in the middle. An example: In the number series 2,4,5,8,9, the median is 5.
