Biotope mapping

The data base includes the results of the nationwide openland and forest biotope mapping. Openland biotope mapping BW covers all biotope types protected by law under § 30 BNatSchG or § 33 NatSchG BW in its carting area (Openland). In addition, the stocks of FFH habitat types 6510 “Small flat meadows” and 6520 “mountain mower meadows” are recorded, but are not part of the data set “Biotopes according to NatSchG and LWaldG”. The legally protected biotope types are recorded according to the uniform requirements of the carting instructions Openland biotope mapping Baden-Württemberg. After the first round of mapping was completed nationwide in 2004, it started in 2010 in a new round. The forest biotope mapping BW covers in its carting area (forest) the rare and therefore protected biotopes, which are mostly protected by § 30a LWaldG, or § 30 BNatSchG or § 33 NatSchG. In addition, other important areas from the point of view of biotope and species protection are covered, e.g. forest populations with animal and plant species worth protecting. Although these areas are not subject to direct legal protection, they are of high importance to nature conservation.
