Cadastral area (sqkm), population and population density -Stichtag — Municipalities

The population update shows the number and composition of the population (gender, age, marital status and nationality) as well as its changes. In principle, the population includes all persons registered in accordance with the current reporting regulations. The counting takes place in the municipality in which the sole or main dwelling (according to the MRRG §12 para.2 Federal Reporting Act) of the reporting person is located. The current population figures are obtained by updating the results of the most recent census (currently 09.05.2011) with data on births and deaths as well as migration statistics. Monthly accounting is carried out of births (+) and deaths reported by the registry offices (−), as well as the increases reported by the reporting authorities (+) and extensions (−) in order to determine the new population figures. In addition, changes of nationality, information on proof of marital status, territorial changes and other stock corrections are taken into account. For the characteristics of gender, age and nationality (German/non-German), the information is available at municipal level. The marital status is determined up to the county level. Results by gender are made available on a monthly basis and according to the other characteristics. The quality report provides information on methods and definitions as well as the quality of the results of a statistics.
