Coastal Gazettes

Since 01.03.2017, the coastal gazetteer of the geographical names in the German coastal waters and adjacent regions has been integrated into the MDI-DE as a WMS with two layers for location geometries and place names (label). This service includes the temporal changes in structures in the Wadden Sea documented in maps (historical management) and the different naming in the local languages (multilingualism). All entries are bibliographically proven. The maps of the StAGN are taken into account as well as the names used in the WSV. With these unique selling points, the coastal Gazetteer goes beyond the information available from the Gazetteer of the BKG. Its maintenance and updating is anchored as a permanent task in the MDI-DE. The service is published as a Web Map Servive (WMS) by the Geoserver of the Federal Institute for Hydraulic Engineering, in the form of layers in the specialist portal MDI-DE.
