Dataset description

Definition: Persons employed include persons engaged in gainful activities, irrespective of the length of working time actually worked or contracted. For the purposes of attribution to employed persons, it is irrelevant whether or not this activity provides for the predominant livelihood. This also includes persons engaged in ‘minor employment’. In the case of more than one activity, persons are counted only once. Workers do not include persons who exclusively manage private assets (e.g. real estate, financial assets, securities). This definition is based on the standards established by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), which have also been incorporated into the European System of Accounts (ESA) 1995. The representation of the employed persons is an annual average size, calculated according to the domestic concept (workers at the place of work). It therefore covers all persons who have their place of residence and work in the respective territory, plus persons residing outside that territory who reach their place of work from there. Employees subject to social security are employees and trainees who are subject to sickness, nursing, pension insurance or are subject to unemployment insurance contributions or for which contributions to the statutory pension insurance are payable. Note: A general audit was carried out in 2014. This mainly served to introduce the new European System of Accounts (ESA 2010) across Europe. ESA 2010 is based on the global new System of National Accounts (SNA 2008) and replaced the previous ESA 1995. As a result of this revision, the base year for the calculations changed from 2005 to 2010.
