enviroCar Vehicle sensor data and travel routes

The “enviroCar” project, which has been in existence since 2013, collects vehicle sensor data and route data and offers part of it in a machine-readable format under the ODbL license as open data for free re-use. Access is made via a standardised API. For more information about API access, please visit the links below. How does enviroCar work? The enviroCar platform consists of several components: Via an app, each participant can collect the data of their car journeys. For this purpose, the vehicle can be connected to the mobile phone via OBD-II Bluetooth adapter to transfer the data via app to the enviroCar servers. Any standard OBD-II adapter can be used for this purpose. This must be plugged into the appropriate interface in the vehicle and connected to the Android smartphone via Bluetooth. Via the second component, the enviroCar API, the data can then be retrieved again. Users can mark their records as “open data”, then this data can be accessed free of access restrictions via the API. In addition, there are other components that support the user in analysing the data. The software components of enviroCar are available as an open source code. What data is provided? All data explicitly provided by users as open data within the framework of Cititzen Science can be accessed via the API. Data from individual public projects are also included. The API also allows you to retrieve your self-recorded data as an active participant. To ensure anonymisation, the first and last 250 meters are cut off from the journeys.
