Dataset description

The eutrophicated areas were derived on the basis of the surface water body sub-catchment areas, in accordance with the provisions of the administrative regulation of territorial identification (AVV GEA), which was adapted in 2022. The basis for the designation is the monitoring results for phosphate and selected biological quality components, which were collected for the implementation of the EC-EC Directive in the period 2012-2019. For surface water bodies which are in a “not good” state for both phosphate and biological components, the proportion of agricultural phosphorus inputs (> 20 % of the total input) and their total quantity (> 20 kg/km²/a in the low mountain range, > 5 kg/km²/a in lowlands) shall be considered. The level of agricultural compared to the total phosphorus inputs was derived from the phosphorus modelling of the cooperation project GROWA+ NRW 2021 (https://www.flussgebiete.nrw.de/growa-nrw-2021-4994). Only if all the criteria indicated are met, a surface water body partial catchment area is designated as an eutrophicated area. A new method in the recast AVV GEA (08/2022) slightly changed the area section of the eutrophicated areas, especially at the edges, compared to 01/2022. For the above-mentioned eutrophicated areas, the Fertiliser Ordinance provides for additional agricultural measures. The identification of these affected field blocks was carried out on the basis of the field blocks provided by the LWK NRW (status: 09/2022) by LANUV NRW in accordance with the provisions of the General Administrative Regulation on the designation of areas contaminated with nitrate and eutrophicated areas (AVV GEA) of 10 August 2022. Included are all field blocks (as at 09/2022), which are located within the eutrophicated areas designated in accordance with §§ 8-13 AVV GEA with an area share of at least 20 percent.
