Dataset description

The state capital Dresden has 961.4 hectares of municipal forest inside and outside the city area. One of the tasks of the Lower Forest Authority is the determination of the current forest area. Forest is, according to the Forest Act for the Free State of Saxony, any floor area covered with forest plants (forest trees and shrubs) which, due to its size, is suitable for a useful, protective or recreational function. Knowledge of forest distribution is important above all for the conservation of the forest, the approval of construction projects and development plans.
