Dataset description

Blatt Neubrandenburg is completely covered by the North German lowlands, with the Mecklenburg Lake District being cut to the west of the map section. The morphology of the northern German lowlands is characterised by glacial influence. As several glacial series (basic moraine, final moraine, sander, Urstrom valley) are overlapping, the landscape is richly shaped with a variety of lakes. The glacial deposits of the Saale and Vistula cold times are muddle gels/leams of the base moraines, deposits of the final moraines, glazilimnian basin clods, fluviatile and glazifluviatile sands as well as Aeolian flight and dune sands. In the lowlands, the pleistocene deposits are partly superimposed by holocene river, moor and lake sediments. The quaternary sediment ceiling is very powerful in the North German lowlands. Only isolated and regionally limited tertiary or creide-time layers of the subsurface appear. In addition to the legend, which informs about the age, petrography and genesis of the geological units, an overlay scheme clearly summarises all surface-close superpositions. Two profile sections provide additional insights into the structure of the substrate. In the east-west course different salt structures are cut. The first profile extends in the north half of the map sheet and crosses the Salzstock Wesenberg as well as the salt cushion Brunstorf. The second profile, in the southern half of the map, cuts the salt sticks net band, Zühlen, Storkow as well as the salt cushions Gransee, Klaushagen-Flieth and Gramzow.
