Dataset description

Blatt Berlin shows the state capital of Berlin and its surroundings — with Baruther Urstromtal, Barnim, Teltow, Fläming and Havelland. The map section is dominated by loose rocks of the Quaternary. Only in a few places older rocks are open, such as the limestone and marl stones near Rüdersdorf (Muschelkalk) and the plaster break-up near Sperenberg (Zechstein). The Brandenburg landscape, as part of the North German lowlands, is characterised by ice ages. Highlands of glacial deposits are the Barnim in the northeast, Havelland in the west, Fläming in the southwest and the Teltow south of Berlin. Here, most of the sediments of the Vistula Glacial (sliding clay of the ground moraine and meltwater sands) are stored, but also Saale-cold-time relics can be found. In the lowlands of the Berlin and Baruther Urstromtal and in the Havelland and Rhin-Luch, the glazifluviatile sands are partly superimposed by younger moor and auretic diments or Aeolian formations such as dune and flight sands. A legend tells about the age, genesis and petrography of the represented units. About half of the 80 units withheld represent overlay cases, which are additionally recorded in a separate overlay scheme for better understanding. A geological profile provides additional insights into the structure of the subsurface.
