Dataset description

Blatt Görlitz depicts the geological conditions in the border triangle of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. The Lusatian mountain country is recorded in the north of the map section, in the east the complex of the Jizera and Giant Mountains, in the west the foothills of the Saxon Creidesenke with the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and in the south the North Bohemian Creidesenke. The Lusatian crossing extends from west-northwest to east-southost across the map sheet. The Plutonite of the southern Lusatian mountains form the largest Plutonite region in the Variscian mountains of Central Europe. Cadomic and ancient paleozoic magmatites and anatexites (upper proterozoic to ordovizium) form the complex called the “Lausitzer Granodiorite massif” due to dominant biotitgranodiorites. The biotite monzogranite in Stolpen and Königshain first intruded synvaristicly in the upper carbon. Tertiary volcanoites (basanite, nephelinite, olivine basalt) occur in the region around Zittau. The crystal stones are superimposed in the lowlands of the Lusatian mountain country by Cenozoic Lockers sediments. In the south-eastern continuation of the Lusatian Bergland, the complex of the Jizera and Giant Mountains extends. In its center, the synvariscally intruded Giant Mountains plutons (biotite-monzogranite of the upper carbon) are surrounded by a belt of metamorphic crystalline stones. While in the north of the pluton store pre-kambrian to Cambrian gneise (“Iser-Gneise”) and mica slate, in its eastern and southern borders also phyllites and quartzites as well as paleozoic metamorphites occur. The south-west boundary of the complex is the Lusatian overlay, which marks the demolition to the northern Bohemian creides. The North Bohemian valley is filled with limestones of sand and marl. With thicknesses of up to 150 m, they store discordantly over pre-kambrian or paleozoic subsurfaces. Striking are the occurrences of tertiary volcanoites (basalt, basanite, nephelinite, phonolite, trachyte), which intensified in the western and north-western section of the valley pass through the Cretaceous sediment cover. In addition to the legend, which informs about the age, genesis and petrography of the represented units, a tectonic overview map illustrates the regional geological structure in the map section. A profile cut provides additional insights into the structure of the substrate. The profile cuts in its northwest-southeast course the Lusatian Granodiorite Massif, the Lusatian overshift as well as the North Bohemian creek with its tertiary volcanic chisels (e.g. Hochwald and Ortel).
