Dataset description
Blatt Stuttgart-Nord is taken almost entirely by the southern German strata landscape. In the northwest corner of the map section is the southern part of the Odenwald. In the area of the southern German layer stage landscape, characteristic layers of the mesozoic (mushell lime to malm) formed by weathering and removal of flat-incoming sediment formations of the mesozoic. From southeast to north-west, the following sequence of rocks can be recorded: In the southeast corner of the map sheet are Lias and Doggers of the Swabian Alb, followed in the northwest direction Keuper, Muschelkalk- and Buntsandstein-Sediments. In the lowlands and sinks, especially in the Heilbronn Mulde, the Mesozoic is superimposed by pleistocene loess. On the western edge of the map section, south of Heidelberg, the Schollen area of the Kraichgau is recorded. With the break-in of the Upper Rhine trench in the tertiary, parallel fault lines and plaice stairs formed next to the main faults. In a narrow space, in addition to mussel limestone, Keuper, Lias and Dogger, you can also find canozoic lockers sediments. The oldest rocks are located in the northwest corner of the map sheet, in the Odenwald. Its western part is composed of metamorphic and magmatic rocks of the Paleozoic or Precambrium. In the metamorphites, gneise and amphibolites dominate. Magmatites are acidic to basic plutonites (granite, granodiorite diorite) as well as late-varistic vulcanites (rhyolites and rhyolithtuff). In contrast, the eastern part of the Odenwald consists of sand and clay stones of the Buntsandstein. In the surroundings of the Odenwald, Zechstein sediments bite in the river course of Neckar and Laxbach. In addition to the legend, which informs about the age, genesis and petrography of the represented units, a geological section provides additional insights into the structure of the subsurface. The profile line begins in the crystalline of the Odenwald and crosses the south-eastern strata landscape in the south-east direction, crossing the Neckar Valley, the Heilbronn Mulde, the Neckar-Jagst-Furche, the Murrtal and the Rudersberg.
