Dataset description

Definition: The Gini coefficient is a measure of relative concentration or inequality, in relation to the per capita assets, and can assume a value between zero (equal distribution) and one (maximum concentration). It is based on the Lorenz curve, which — here, for example, in the case of a distribution of assets — represents, starting from the poorest households, the aggregated shares in the number of households in proportion to the total share of their total assets. With absolute uniform distribution of assets, the laurence curve would result in a 45-degree upward line (line of perfect equal distribution). The deviation of the actual curve from this ideal line is measured by the Gini coefficient. In the case of equal distribution, the Gini coefficient gives a value of zero and, in the case of the concentration of total assets in only one person, a value of 1. An increase in the Gini coefficient therefore means an increase in U
