Dataset description

The purpose of the zoonose monitoring is to gain knowledge about the contamination of food and animal populations with zoonotic agents and to identify trends in the development of zoonoses and zoonotic agents. The basis for the monitoring of zoonoses is the General Administrative Regulation on the collection, evaluation and publication of data on the occurrence of zoonoses and zoonotic agents along the food chain (AVV Zoonoses Food Chain), which regulates the procedure for the coordination and implementation of investigations on zoonoses monitoring and subsequent reporting. The AVV Zoonoses Food Chain is based on Directive 2003/99/EC on the monitoring of zoonoses and zoonotic agents, which obliges EU Member States to collect, evaluate and publish representative and comparable data on the occurrence of zoonoses and zoonotic agents and related antimicrobial resistance in food, feed and live animals. The BVL collects, evaluates and publishes the data in the annual zoonoses monitoring reports together with the results of the typing of pathogens, resistance testing and the assessment of the results by the BfR. These data are also part of the data submitted annually to EFSA.
