Map layer RAMSAR NRW

The map layer RAMSAR shows the spatial distribution of wetlands of international importance under the Convention on Wetlands, especially as a habitat for wading and waterfowl, of international importance (Ramsar Convention 1971). Germany has been a member since 1976. Originally, the Ramsar Convention aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands as habitats of aquatic birds. In recent years, the Convention’s objectives have expanded and now include the holistic protection of wetlands as important ecosystems for the conservation of biodiversity.
