Dataset description

Some sensors originally installed for driver comfort in today’s vehicles offer the potential to generate added value for various water management applications. The research project MobileView investigates vehicle sensors for which a connection to precipitation events can be detected. In combination with the high temporal and spatially high resolution automotive sensor data with precipitation radar and pluviometer measurements, a more precise quantification of precipitation intensities and location of the events can be achieved. This approach provides added value for heavy rain forecasting, warning management as well as the management of traffic and water management systems. The investigation area is the territory of Emschergenossenschaft/Lippeverband (EGLV) and the investigation period is 14.12.2018 to 31.09.2020. The data has been continuously recorded and is summarised in days. The data include the following parameters recorded by the car: reftime — time of measurement. Format: “Yyyy-MM-DD'T’HH:mm:SS.fff'Z'” xUTM32N (m) — y-coordinate in EPSG: 25832 yUTM32N (m) — x-coordinate in EPSG: 25832 tempAmb (degC) — Value of the automotive temperature sensor in °C lightSnsrTop (lux) — Value of the car light sensor in lux percRainSnsr — Rain sensor value in % wipKombi (per min-1) — Actual windshield wiper speed (manual if available, otherwise automatically specified) in strokes/min
