Dataset description

The data set “Nature Protected Areas Wuppertal” covers, on the one hand, the scope of the nature reserves established since 1995 in the four legally binding landscape plans of the city of Wuppertal (Wuppertal-Gelpe, Wuppertal-Ost, Wuppertal-Nord and Wuppertal-West), on the other hand, two areas or residual areas of nature reserves previously defined by the State of NRW by individual regulations (Nature Protection Area “Hardthöhle” of 1966, remaining area of the original 1996 nature reserve “Herichhauser Bach”). With the definition of nature reserves in the landscape plans, most of the nature reserves were repealed from the previous individual regulations of the country. The spatial scope of the nature reserves was constructed by the Department of Surveying, cadastral office and spatial data by professionally interpreting the analogue and digital originals along parcel boundaries, limits of actual use or other topographical lines of the real estate cadastre. In doing so, the files on case-by-case planning information provided previously on the location of a parcel inside or outside a nature reserve were also used in order to avoid contradictory statements by the city administration in this regard. The scope of the Wuppertal Nature Reserves has remained unchanged since 03/2005. It is theoretically possible to continue the data on a case-by-case basis, but is unlikely due to the high importance of nature reserves. A more extensive continuation of the database takes place only if a new landscape plan has become final or after a legally effective change of an existing landscape plan. The dataset is available under an open data license (CC BY-ND 4.0) with the exclusion of data modification. According to the AG Geokom.NRW of the leading municipal associations in North Rhine-Westphalia and the state of NRW, the nature reserves have a statutory publication obligation according to the requirements of the INSPIRE Directive and the Spatial Data Access Act NRW. They are assigned to the topic “protected areas” in Annex I to the Directive in the recommendation for action of this WG.
