Potential natural vegetation (pnV) in Saxony 1:300 000

The data of the “potential natural vegetation” (pnV) provide information on the (final) state of the natural vegetation of Saxony, which would prevail under the current site conditions if the land use by humans remained. For the PNV of Saxony there are data for maps in the scales of 1:50 000, 1:200 000 and 1:300 000. The pnV 1:300 000 represents the further development of the “Vegetation Landscapes of Saxony on a local-vegetational basis” (Schmidt et al. 1997) and replace it. The scale 1:300 000 has been aggregated on the basis of the pnV 1:50 000 and is clearly abstracted from the other two maps. The higher degree of generalisation required not only the content but also a strong spatial aggregation of the underlying pnV maps. In the implementation of pnV 1:50 000 to pnV 1:300 000, the number of carting units was reduced by summaries from 162 to 68 the names and number codes therefore only partially match.
