Public Housing Promotion in North Rhine-Westphalia

Living is a central basic need for all people and services of general interest. Therefore, housing must not only be available in demand-oriented quantities, but must also meet individual quality requirements and be affordable. In order to achieve this goal, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia provides a comprehensive programme for the promotion of housing every year. The funding will focus on rental housing (new construction and new construction of rent- and occupancy-based rental housing) as well as property measures (new construction, initial and existing acquisition of residential property for self-use) and the modernisation of housing stocks. In this context, modern, climate-friendly building standards as well as individual needs are taken into account. In principle, the funding takes into account the local needs and cost structures, including dynamic change processes in the housing markets. Planning and implementation should also reflect urban, architectural, ecological, technical or social qualities. The data provided reflect the funding results of the last years — differentiated by subsidised housing units as well as approved funds in terms of rent, modernisation and property.
