Dataset description

Definition: As of 1 January 2003, the Basic Pensions Act (GSiG) introduced the “needs-oriented basic pension in old age and disability” as an independent social benefit (according to the SGB XII). Basic old-age benefits are provided to persons habitually resident in the Federal Republic of Germany who are unable to meet their basic needs from their own income or wealth and who have reached the age limit laid down in Section 41(2) of the SGB XII. Persons born before 1 January 1947 reach the age limit at the age of 65. For persons who have passed after 31 December. Born in 1946, the age limit is gradually raised to 67 years. The rate of persons receiving basic old-age pensions refers to the percentage of persons receiving basic old-age pensions in the population who have reached the age limit in accordance with Section 41(2) of the SGB XII.
