As part of the registration procedure and vehicle taxation, the so-called emission classes are formed on the basis of the different threshold tables of various EC directives on the basis of the individual euro levels and assigned to the respective pollutant classes for commercial vehicles. The assignment is based on the applicable type-approval legislation. For formerly so-called group vehicles (II and III), the allocation is made due to the permissible higher limit values to the next lower Euro level.
These emission classes are further summarised in the vehicle registration statistics. For a better understanding, these, following general language usage, receive user-friendly terms such as “EURO 5”.
