Dataset description

The data set includes a tabular representation of all Wuppertal buildings and objects whose roofs are economically suitable for the operation of a photovoltaic system with an assumed output of 2 kWp. For this purpose, the well-suited, the suitable and the conditionally suitable roof area in m² is indicated. Buildings or objects with completely unsuitable roof surfaces are not included in the data set. The data set was derived by tetraeder.solar GmbH in September 2022 from the results of a model calculation of the Wuppertal roof area solar potential directly carried out on behalf of the City of Wuppertal. The data base for the digital roof surface and irradiation model used were the result data of a laser scan flight of the Wuppertal city area by the state of NRW mainly in December 2020, for the smaller part also in 2021. Part On buildings or objects built after that date, the data set therefore makes no statements. Through the service provider tetraeder.solar GmbH, the city of Wuppertal operates the map-based, interactive online information “Solar Potential Cataster Wuppertal” (https://www.solare-stadt.de/wuppertal/) with an assistant module for the configuration and planning of a photovoltaic or solar thermal system. For each suitable building or object, the data set also contains statements about the performance of a photovoltaic system that can be installed on the appropriate roof surface, its construction costs, electricity and money yield, as well as the annual CO₂ savings that can be achieved with the installation. This information represents the technical status and economic environment of September 2022. Their future interpretation must therefore take into account the possible changes in the meantime. Current calculations can be made in individual cases via the assistant in the above-mentioned application “Solar Potential Cataster Wuppertal”. The record is provided in CSV and XLSX formats as open data under the CC BY 4.0 license.
